When I first started teaching, I was asked to teach a Microsoft Office class. I didn't know much about the Microsoft Suite (I somehow got through college on google docs). My first year was tough... I was doing my best to keep ahead of the students, but the thing I really struggled with was how BORING the class was. Once I realized I was in charge of my own destiny as a teacher, I decided I was going to make it the funnest class at Riverton. I created puzzles in Excel, card games for reviewing formulas, and little class games to learn new stuff. I eventually got hired on to create a curriculum for the entire district to use, and it has been successful for middle school and high school classes. Recently, I have decided to take the gamification to the next level. I have started developing a computer game that students can play with a classroom add code. They are exploring a universe trying to find and collect treasure. But here's the catch: Each treasure box must be opened by solving some sort of Excel puzzle. As students collect more treasure, they can begin to upgrade their house and display all of the cool stuff they've found!
